About Ministry of Water
Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation was established in the year 2023 through an Executive Order No. 1 of March, 2023. The mandate of the ministry is to promote and support integrated water resource management in Kenya.

State department for water and sanitation
This department performs the following functions :
- Water Resources Management Policy and Standards
- Water Catchment Area Conservation, Control and Protection;
- Water and Sewerage Services Management Policy;
- Waste Water Treatment and Disposal Policy;
- Water Quality and Pollution Control;
- Sanitation Management;
State department for irrigation
This department performs the following functions :
- National Irrigation Policy and Management;
- Water Harvesting and Storage for Irrigation;
- Management of Irrigation Schemes;
- Water Storage and Flood Control Management;
- Mapping, Designating and Developing Areas ideal for Irrigation Schemes; and
- Development of irrigation infrastructure; and Land Reclamation.
